Mindstate Design Labs Website Redesign Case Study
0 Background
Dillan DiNardo co-founded Mindstate Design Labs to address the global mental health crisis using psychedelics as tools to probe the infrastructure of the mind.
After the company graduated from Y Combinator in 2021 they raised money from Initialized Capital, Naval Ravikant & many others. (If you’re interested in Dillan’s story I recorded a podcast with him here)
1 Goals
Dillan commissioned WEBOAF to design & develop an inspiring 1-page website to take the company through hiring until their next raise.
2 The Problem
The old website worked well for the company when it was at Seed Stage, enabling them to capture their first round of investment. Since raising their Series A, Dillan wanted to distill the messaging and present the company in a more engaging way.
3 Web Design
Dillan and the team impressively distilled their messaging into several small paragraphs. No mean feat for a company working in a domain as complex as theirs.
The WEBOAF then used the Mindstate Branding guidelines as a base to start designing from, we were given creative freedom to experiment outside the guidelines if necessary.
Capturing Innefability
The psychedelic industry is nascent and design standards haven’t settled yet. We wanted to capture the depth and ineffability of the psychedelic experience without alienating a traditional biotech investor.
Communicating Complexity
I created some simple animations with geometric shapes to break down complex technical information
Image Curation
Naturally as a biotech, Mindstate had no imagery. So we curated images that would represent the magic of the psychedelic experience without going over the top.
4 Results
The team were very happy with the outcome & we have carried on working closely together to keep the website up to speed with their rate of hiring.
"WEBOAF did some amazing work for our website. Ollie did a great job in translating the aesthetic vision into a final product, and he was very responsive to evolving needs and feedback. I'd highly recommend Weboaf for other deep tech companies looking for a website redesign."
